Take on the ‘world’s craziest and most worthwhile marathon’
- Runner's World
The 2017 marathon will return to bustling Makeni, the third largest city in Sierra Leone and home to Street Child's first-ever projects. Winding through tropical forest and local villages, this unique race is one you'll never forget. With an electric atmosphere, whether you choose to walk, jog or run you will be welcomed by local people and high-fived by children along the route. It's an experience that unites everyone. What's more, the Sierra Leone Marathon is the only marathon in the world where all participants are united behind a common cause and get to meet the children that they're fundraising for.
"running in such a beautiful country with all the villagers turning out and supporting you with such enthusiasm - 26 miles has never seemed so short!"
Full & half marathon
The Sierra Leone Marathon route takes in some of the most beautiful scenery in northern Sierra Leone. Running on both urban and rural roads, the majority of which are hard-packed mud roads, runners will wind through Sierra Leonean countryside and local villages.
10k & 5k
The 5k and 10k route takes runners through Makeni on dirt and tarmac roads winding through local houses and schools before returning to the finish line at the Wusum Stadium.
Volunteers help with a variety of tasks including; helping on the start/finish area, giving out medals or recording results, manning the course water stations or helping the medical team in order to help in the preparation and smooth running of this spectacular event.
