The Sierra Leone Marathon is a unique event in that everybody that travels to participate is united in a common fundraising goal: to support the projects of UK charity Street Child. Whilst on the ground, our runners are also given the opportunity to visit, meet and draw inspiration from the very children for whom they've been raising funds - some of the most vulnerable children in the world.
By the middle of 2014, Sierra Leone had been hit hard by the devastating affects of the Ebola virus. Since then, Street Child's principle focus has been on supporting the huge humanitarian effort. We have become one of the most active agencies in the region working with Ebola orphans and the charity is currently focused on providing access to education for Ebola-affected children across Sierra Leone.
Your support for these children has never been needed more. That is why we are committed to bringing the Sierra Leone Marathon back to Makeni in 2015. We hope that you will be able to get behind this vital effort and combine this unique sporting challenge with the chance to help change the lives of the children hit hardest by Ebola.
